Yes, generally this is the case, VSR units won't always work with smart alternators. We'd recommend a DC to DC charger.

You can use the VSR Kit and the Dual Battery Wiring Kit to set up a dual battery system. You'll have spare Anderson ports to connect your solar panels, however we wouldn't recommend leaving the solar panel cable plugged in for transit - which is when the main battery will charge the battery box via the VSR port. When you're stationary you can leave the dual battery wiring kit plugged in, and then plug in the solar panel cable to charge.

It is possible this could suit your setup, but it's hard to know for sure. They've been designed to connect a main battery to the Hard Korr Battery for use as a dual battery system. It is essentially 8AWG cable with a 50A fuse, and Anderson plug on the end, so it could work for you, however, it might be worth double-checking with your local auto-electrician, as there might be an easier way to connect your system.

There isn't a step by step guide, however, you'll need the dual battery wiring kit and VSR to set this up for charging in your vehicle. The dual battery wiring kit has 6m, of cable, which should reach from the front to the rear of the vehicle depending on your setup. Generally, if you're not overly confident doing this yourself we'd recommend getting an auto-electrician to set it up for you.

If your battery box has an Anderson input then yes you should be able to use this wiring kit to charge your battery box. You'll need a VSR, Hard Korr make them for their own battery boxes, however, it might be possible for you to fit one to your Projecta Battery Box, however, that would be a question for Projecta.

If you're wanting to set up a dual battery system then all you'll need is the wiring system, you'll just hook up the cabling to your crank battery, and plug it in via the Anderson plug with the VSR and you'll be good to go. If you're not wanting to set up a dual battery system and just want to charge the battery box via DC then yes you'll need a DCDC charger, but won't need the dual battery wiring kit.
