The Black Diamond Distance FLZ Trekking Poles are fast to deploy, lightweight in your hand, and pack away small and light enough to fit inside your daypack - perfect for any adventure.
These compact poles are constructed from aluminium and have three sections. Inside is a Kevlar cord connecting all segments, while extending the poles takes a simple release-and-pull action until the Slidelock clicks into place - keeping the bottom section of the pole securely locked into place. This model is 30% stiffer than previous designs to offer more support for your joints. Folding the poles is easy - simply release the Slidelock, and the tension on the kevlar cord is relieved to allow easy folding for transport.
Featuring interchangeable non-scarring tech tips, a lightweight EVA foam grip, and a moisture wicking, breathable strap for keeping your grip secure - take on the terrain with extra stability, owing to the Distance FLZ Trekking Poles from Black Diamond.

Hi. I am unsure of the right size for me. I am 181cm tall and measure 122cm from floor to top of the palm with my arm bent at a right angle by my side. The 110-125cm size would not give me much room to extend the pole when going down hill? Would sizing up to the 125-140cm be a better bet?
G'day Peter,
I'd go for the 125-140cm based on the distance you've measured from your hand down to the ground. You're right on the edge of the sizes, and you'll want the longer option for going downhill as you've said.
Hi, was just hoping to find out what year these poles are. Cheers, Conor
G'day Conor,
The Distance FLZ models have been around since 2018, but this current colour is part of the late 2023 release.
Are the straps adjustable? Are there separate left and right poles or are they interchangeable?
G'day Helen,
The poles are interchangeable for left and right. I would say that the strap is not adjustable, however, to fit the straps fairly firmly around your hand so you dont drop the poles, it has a little stretch for comfort.
I am 170-171 cm. I held a tape measure from the ground and when my arm is at 90 degrees, the top of my hand measures 114 from the ground. Does that mean the 110-125cm size is for me? I am intending to use this for small walks and hikes
G'day Bill,
Yep! That's the correct way to measure up for trekking poles, so the 110-125cm size is the one you'll be after.
Just had 2 west of the Black Diamond Z poles delivered - order 716475 We cannot get the poles to stay locked in the middle where the grey lock sign is. They just keep slipping back down. Can you help?
G'day Monica,
Thanks for getting in touch, these poles do tend to stump people if they've not seen the Z style poles before. Have a watch of our youtube video on the FLZ model, which has the same lock mechanism in the middle. Ben talks about how to assemble them, and pack them down towards the end of the video.
Please feel free to give us a call and we can chat you through it over the phone too.
I am 164 cm tall so I am thinking the 95 - 110 is the right one for me Am I right.
G'day Faith,
As a general guide, yes that would be correct. Having said that though, the right sized pole for you is not about how tall you are, but about the height of your hand with your elbow bent 90 degrees. I would recommend working off this measurement first and foremost, as everyones bodies and preportions are different. Check out Black Diamons Size Chart: Z-poles for a guide.
Hello, do these poles keep the height they’ve been adjusted to when you pack them down, or do you need to redo the height adjustments each time? Thanks
G'day Peter,
Thanks for your enquiry. In order to pack down the Black Diamond Distance FLZ Trekking Poles, you need to adjust the locking systems and slide the pole to its shortest length before folding the 3 pole sections down to pack size. This means, unfortunately, the poles can't remain at your desired height upon pack down and would need to be adjusted again with each use.
Thank you
G'day Gabrielle,
This is a really tricky one mate! Ordinarily, for your height, I'd probably recommended the smaller size of 95-110cm but that wouldn't extend to enough length for your tent so perhaps to cater for both uses it might be worth considering the 105-125cm. I'd recommend doing a quick calculation using your arm length and what you estimate to be a comfortable extension setting for your pole when being used for trekking, as this will help in deciding if the 105-125cm pole will be suitable. Hope that helps! Cheers :)
You can purchase pole jacks made specifically for cases such as yours
I used to have a trekking pole where the handle could be removed to use the pole as a screw in camera monopod. I would also like a set of poles that would be suitable for use with the WE space 3 tent. Something strong or rigid enough so that they could be used with hammocks as as described here http://www.theultralighthiker.com/simple-hammock-double-up/ - would all poles be suitable for this, do you think? Another possibility, but perhaps less likely, would be to use them for a chair frame. My husband has a Sea to Summit Air Chair - Regular which he likes and I was considering making one for myself and wondering whether it would be possible to slide foldable poles in as a frame. I don't know what size the pieces would be when folded. I am 158cm tall so I need poles that are small enough for me to walk comfortably with but large enough for maximum versatility and I would be very interested in your comments and advice. THANKS
G'day Janette,
It sounds like you've got some pretty grand plans for these trekking poles, which is great! Unfortunately, I don't really have many definitive answers for you. I do know that they can't be used for your camera but as for using it as a chair frame or as the hammock, I honestly am not sure. It would just need to be one of those things that someone would need to try and see. We also don't stock any Wilderness Equipment gear, so I can't go and try them out with the tent either, I'm sorry.
Do these come in a longer size? I need something that extends to 135cm.
They do Luke, but we are just waiting on updated models to come through. Word from our supplier is that they have just landed at their end, so I'll send a friendly reminder to our purchasing department to get an order in asap. I don't have an exact date for you sorry, but I would expect it would still be a few weeks by the time they are ready for sale on our website. Sorry for the delay here.
