Darche has named Dirty Dee as their ultimate freestanding tourer in their range, and you can certainly see why. The Dirty Dee stands completely upright thanks to the clever pole trigger locking system which makes it as roomy as a small tent.
The mesh-covered windows are massive, so you can unzip the fly to catch a glimpse of your beautiful surroundings while you chill out in your shelter. One of the really great features of Darche swags are their mattresses – which are the kind that are actually comfortable enough on their own without the need to add extra padding for grabbing some shut-eye.
You can get the Dirty Dee ready for a good night’s rest lightning fast – so it’s perfect for the touring lifestyle. Over the years a swag can become like an old friend, who you’ve shared a long list of adventures with, so make sure you invest in a good quality shelter like the Dirty Dee to accompany you wherever you go.

Can the darche hutch or hutch lite be fitted to a durty dee 900 (with obvious overhang each side) or will it need to be setup freestanding? Thanks.
G'day Lee,
It will be wider, but you shouldn't have any issues. With the gusset over the Dirty Dee end hoop, just line up the eyelet and pop your spreader bar through, that should secure it enough without it needing to set up free standing.
Hope that helps!
Hi is the mat 7cm or 5cm thick?
G'day Raija,
The Dirty Dee 900 has a 7cm thick mattress. They were upgraded from a 5cm mattress in early 2020.
What is the height of the Dirty Dee When it’s setup?
G'day Danika,
The maximum head height is 85cm, so externally you're looking at approximately 95cm of height to the top of the external pole.
E.g. what is the wight of the "tent" part only? How much could you save of the 11.5kg by using a lighter mat?
G'Day Zingo
The weight of the swag without the mattress is approximately 9.35 Kg. The Dirty Dee can also be purchased as a 'Skin only' with the option to add a mattress on offer in the package deals or a mattress of your choice. Check it out here.
Hey guys, I'm tossing up between the dirty dee or the dusk to dawn. What would you guys recomend? Is it worth a few extra bucks for something a bit different, or should I stick to the old and trusty shape/design? Cheers.
G'day Jackson,
The Dusk to Dawn tends to be a slightly more popular model with the configuration of poles and side awnings. The two models are generally purchased to suit different individual needs with the Dirty Dee being a slightly better model for ventilation in wet weather. We think both are pretty stellar, so I'd decide based on your current budget and what looks best to you!
How many guy ropes come with the swag?
G'day Jackson,
As the Dirty Dee is a free standing swag guy ropes arent neccessary for structure or support. Each of the head and foot window flaps do come with guys ropes on the bottom corners to peg out for weather proof ventilation.
Hi is the only difference in the width of these swags. If so what would the 900 be equal to in mattress size
G'day Darren,
The 900 and 1400 refer to the width measurement in mm. So, the 900 is approx 90cm wide, the 1400 is approx 1400cm wide. Hope that helps.
What is the mesh like? Will it keep out all the bugs and sandflys?
G'day Nermin,
Personally, I reckon the quality of the mesh is among the best I've seen! The fabric itself has a good amount of structure to it so it's not too flimsy and the weave is very tight, meaning the holes are really small. Any bug or sandfly would be hard pressed getting through and as for the dreaded midge, urgh I'm far too familiar with how unpleasant those tiny critters are! In my opinion, the holes look small enough to possibly even keep them at bay but if you wanted to be really sure, you could always give your mesh a spray with some kind of residual insecticide like this one. We also have a great blog all about how to make your Tent or Swag Midge and Sandfly Proof. Hope that helps! Cheers :)
I go camping with my family and the caravan can´t fit any big Bags.
G'day Alex,
The packed dimensions of the Darche Dirty Dee 900 Swag are 80cm in length, 33cm in width and 31cm in height.
Hi, will it fit on a oztent king gonna strecher and can you fit the mega mat 10 law in for extra comfort. Thanks
G'day Adrian,
This all sounds like a pretty good combination mate. The mat will fit in the swag fine and whilst the swag is a bit too wide for the stretcher this normally works ok. We've got a Darche Ridgedome setup on a Sundowner Titan Stretcher in the shop at the moment with a similar 10cm width difference and they work great together.
Can this swag go on top of a stretcher bed and if so, which stretcher bed would you recommend?
G'day Amelia,
Keeping it in the Darche family, if you went for the XL 100 Stretcher, then you'll be absolutely laughing with putting your Dirty Dee 900 Swag on top.
Hi! Would this swag be difficult to roll up by yourself? Have read that some other swags are difficult to roll up by yourself
G'day Chelsea,
As this one is only 900mm wide which is the typical single size, this one isn't too bad. However, it does become harder the wider the swag is.
what is the volume of the carry bag? so that i can figure out the rolled up swag size
G'day Tom,
The Darche Dirty Dee 900 Swag Bag is 90cm wide with a diameter of approximately 45cm, which is reflective of the swag when rolled up (without bedding).
How long does it take to set it up and then pack it away?
G'day Sharyn,
When we put our display up in store it took between 10-15 minutes, and it was about the same for packing it up.
Keep in mind that it will depend on your experience with swags, so it may be a good idea to give it a try before you go on a trip to make sure you get the hang of it.Â
