If you haven’t got a lot of space to spare to cool your food and drinks, then the Coolmatic CD 30 from Dometic is just what you need.
The cooling unit can be fitting on the left or right side of the cooler, and the 1.5m lead included provides a bit of flexibility. This low-profile compressor drawer fridge smoothly unlocks and opens in a single movement for easy access to your refreshments. If you like you can run this unit with solar panels, it also has low voltage protection, and you can regulate the temperature with the continuously variable thermostat.
You’re also able to set the temperature depending on what you need, so you can conserve energy if necessary. The Coolmatic CD 30 is designed to be economical, quiet and compact so it’s a great size for your vehicle or boat if space is a premium.
Hi team. I notice that you have 'clearance' listed against this model. Are Dometic releasing a new model for this one?
G'day Mark,
We're not aware of Dometic releasing a new drawer fridge, they could be at some stage in the future but nothing as yet.
This fridge is part of Snowys range clearance - we're making room for new gear - so if you're keen to grab one from us, now would be the time!
Hi. Just looking at different fridge options and by my reading of the specifications it looks like this and other drawer fridge use more amps/hour compared to similar sized portable fridge. Is this correct or have I misinterpreted the power usage stats? More understanding of 12v systems is pretty rudimentary. I'm weighing up the convenience and implications of student options including what that means for power systems.
G'day Simon,
It's correct. Draw fridges generally have less opportunity for insulation compared to standard 12v fridges. Cold air sinks, and hot air rises, so they also allow all the cold air to drop out of the bottom every time you open the draw which means they have to work abit harder to maintain temperature.
By comparison, a normal fridge obviously has top lid access, so very little cold air has an opportunity to escape.
Drawer fridges are an excellent option for space saving and access issues, but they do come at the sacrifice of being less efficient overall. Generally, if you have a decent solar & secondary battery or portable battery set up, it shouldnt be too large of an issue.
Hi. How far does the drawer extend out in front of the fridge please? I am trying to work out how much room to leave in front of the fridge
G'day Ian,
Ian, we've managed to get this one measured by Dometic for you - the drawer extends to 43cm from the fridge body.
Hope that helps, and you have enough space!
Does this drawer fridge have built in fans to assist ventilation ?
G'day Keith,
The CD30 compressor does have ventilation ports, but the fridge must be installed without these covered and enough area for air to circulate freely around the compressor.
Check out the Manual / Installation Guide PDF online for more info.
G'day, can you tell me if it is necessary or even advisable to have a ventilation space around the unit.. I want to mount it in the back of my aluminium work canopy and was going to build a protective/insulated box over it in 25 mm coolroom wall sheeting. I also thought it might need to be removed periodically for defrosting or condensation build up.?
G'day Chris,
Dometic specifies that the fridge should be mounted in a well-ventilated space, but it doesn't specify how big that space should be. You could make a box to mount the fridge within and mount the compressor separately, as the compressor can be mounted up to 1.5m from the drawer. It is important to keep the components free of dust etc, so you'll need to be able to access all sides of the unit for routine cleaning as required.
The quoted temp range down to -2C is borderline for a freezer!
G'day Damian,
The Coolmatic CD30 is just a fridge, unfortunately, it's not rated for use as a freezer. You might be able to keep items that are pre-frozen close to freezing, but you won't be able to freeze. If you're looking for a drawer fridge with freezer capability then the Evakool DC40 would be the best option.
Can I remove the compressor so I can mount it elsewhere?
G'day Daniel,
Yes, the compressor can be mounted separately to the fridge. The compressor pipe is 1.5m long, so can be set up accordingly. Have a look at the user manual at the bottom of the specifications for some mounted diagrams and tips.
Can a anderson lead be put on it
G'day Cindy,
The CD30 is designed to be hard-wired, but theoretically, you could wire in an Anderson Plug. We'd recommend speaking to your auto-electrician about setting this up, as it's not designed as a plugin or relocatable fridge.
Want to put it in my van, replacing my exsisting fridge , plug in point is exsisting and runs my fridge now
G'day Cindy,
The CD30 Drawer Fridge doesn't come with a plug, they need to be hard-wired, so they just having a wiring loom coming off the compressor.
I want to install this fridge in a wood panel wall,Is there a type of surround for the hole you cut in the wall to suit the fridge
G'day Greg,
The Fridge is designed to be mounted on top of something, like a vehicle floor, and is supplied with some mount brackets to do so. If you're wanting to mount into a wall then you might need to make a shelf of something similar to secure it in place. Unfortunately, there isn't a hole surround that will suit this unit.
is it weather proof? dust proof? vibration? can i lock the draw?
Hi Graeme, Dometic claim that this is designed for use in HGV's (Heavy Goods Vehicles), boats and caravans, which suggests it should be installed in a somewhat protected location. There are also a lot of exposed elements to the rear that won't mix well with dust and water. I don't think uninstallation on the exterior of a 4WD would be suitable for this type of fridge, you are best sticking with chest type freezers for this purpose.
As for your other questions, it is vibration proof but not to the same level as a chest fridge given the extra moving arts in the drawer operation. And the drawer cannot be locked
Fridge mounting ? Is the fridge easy to mount ? To a ply wood base ?
G'day Joseph,
The Coolmatic CD30 is pretty easy to bolt down, it comes with some mounting brackets and will just need a drill or powered screwdriver.
