Why is the Snowy’s comfort rating different by 7 degrees?? Have read on another site’s reviews that -12 degrees is actually the “at risk” rating - is this correct?
John - Orange Dc, NSW (8 months ago)
G'day John,
The Snowys Comfort Rating is our best guess, based on the feedback we've received from other customers & other sleeping bags with the same insulation volume and quality.
Darche haven't done any official comfort rating testing on this bag, so the -12°c is stated by Darche based on their own internal ratings process. For sleeping bags that have been through EN/ISO testing standards will come with a "Comfort"/"Lower"/"Extreme" temperature rating, in which case the "Extreme" is the at-risk rating.
There a range of variables which contribute to how warm you'll be in a sleeping bag, its comfort temp rating being only one. Your mat R-Value, core body temperature at bed time, when you last ate, your metabolism, etc are all additional factors which can play a part, and also why people can report different warmth experiences from the same sleeping bag.

Hood placement when joined1 answer
When these are joined together, is the hood placement the same - both hoods on the bottom? Or one hood on bottom (under head), the other hood on top (covering face)
Tommy J - Melbourne, VIC (2 years ago)
G'day Tommy,
These bags have a zipper down both sides of the bag, so theres no need to open flat, or turn one over, in order to join them together. They simply just go side by side.

Swag compatible?1 answer
Hi Would you be able to roll it up inside a Darche Dusk to Dawn 900 swag ?
James - Wellington Point, QLD(3 years ago)
G'day James,
These are primarily designed by Darche for swag usage, as the range is compatible with all the swag size options, so theres no issue with rolling your sleeping bag up inside. Depending on how particular you are with it or what mattress you're using it may not fit in the storage bag, but people have been using swags for decades without a bag and its only a very new thing - certainly not neccessary if it turns out that it doesnt fit.

Hood length1 answer
How long is the sleeping bag not including the length of the hood?
Shawn - Wamberal, NSW(3 years ago)
G'day Shawn,
The hood is around 30cm at its tallest point, so the length of the sleeping bag body is around 220cm.

Inner lining1 answer
Hi. Just wondering what the inner lining is like. I know it says silk polyester, but the pictures make it look a little "canvassy". So are we talking Hugh Heffner level silk pyjamas here. Or Mom and Pop, sack of potatoes every day silk feel? I have had Roman, And Kathmandu sleeping bags with a silk feel that I like. If they can be compared. Thankyou
Dan - Victoria(3 years ago)
G'day Dan,
The inner lining looks a little canvassy, but it is quite a soft-touch material. I wouldn't say it's silk pyjama level, but it's an everyday silk feel if that helps.

Manufacturer1 answer
Is the sleeping bag made in China?
Joe - WA(4 years ago)
G'day Joe,
Darche is an Australian company and their sleeping bags are designed in Australia but made overseas. I'm unable to find a specific country of manufacture.

Internal girth1 answer
G'day What is the "internal girth" measurement a measurement of? Thank you.
Matt - Leichhardt(5 years ago)
G'day Matt,
The internal girth is the internal circumference of the bag if you think of it in a cylinder shape.

Waterproof1 answer
Does it have DWR coating on the outside or it the material polyester and naturally water resistant?
Esther - Leda(5 years ago)
G'day Esther,
I gave the team at Darche a call for you. They confirmed the outer shell of the Cold Mountain Synthetic bags has been treated with a water-resistant coating. Although the polyester is not naturally water-resistant, each bag is treated and should keep you dry, however this bag does not come with a waterproof guarantee.

Machine washable1 answer
just wondering in the case you have an absent minded child who spills his drink all over an open sleeping bag or similar issue
Melanie - Peregian Beach, QLD(5 years ago)
G'day Melanie,
Technically Darche suggest hand washing your sleeping bag in warm water with mild detergent, but you could machine wash the bag on gentle cycle in a front loading washing machine.

Single V Double1 answer
My partner and I are considering whether to get two 900 or one 1400. We are thinking it might be good to have seperate sleeping bags. Could you unzip the 1400 completely to have two seperate blanket type things or that wouldn’t really work? What do you recommend?
Shelley - Blue Mountains, NSW(6 years ago)
G'day Shelley,
We'd probably suggest zipping together two Cold Mountain 900s rather than going for one Cold Mountain 1400 as it will give you more flexibility. You can completely separate the two halves of the Cold Mountain 1400, and then fold it in half to zip into a separate bag, however, you won't be able to zip across the foot and one person will have no hood at all, and the other will have the whole hood. So we'd suggest getting two 900s rather than one 1400.

Compatibility1 answer
Hi, just wondering whether the canvas version can be zipped to the non-canvas version? Adam
Adam - Wangaratta, NSW(6 years ago)
G'day Adam,
I've just done a trial run zipping the Cold Mountain canvas to the Cold Mountain polyester. Unfortunately, the zippers are slightly different sizes so they are not compatible to zip together.

Size compatibility1 answer
can the Cold Mtn 900 be zipped to the Cold Mtn 1100 to back a bigger double ? Thanks
Steve - Yarra Valley, VIC(7 years ago)
G'day Steve,
Having just had a quick look at our display models of the Darche Cold Mountain 900 & 1100 Sleeping Bags, I don't reckon you'll have too many issues at all with zipping them together to create a larger bag.

Zip together1 answer
With the old cold mountain (green/camo colour) you could zip two of them together, provided 1 was a left zip and the other was a right zip. Can you zip the new orange style together? If so, are there 'left' and 'right' models?
Josh - Melbourne, VIC(7 years ago)
G'day Josh,
You can indeed zip two Darche Cold Mountain 900 Sleeping Bags together. You don't need to have a left and right-hand zipper bag, just use one as the bottom and one as the top.
Ben - Snowys(7 years ago)
Bottom zip1 answer
Does it have a separate zip so the bottom can be open with the sides remaining zipped? Also, goes it have a zip on each side or just one side? Thanks
Rachael - The Entrance, NSW(7 years ago)
G'day Rachael,
It is possible just to open the bottom of the Darche Cold Mountain 900 Sleeping Bag and it has dual zips meaning that you have full length zips on each side of the sleeping bag.

Open out1 answer
can it be opened completely to resemble a normal doona?
Cecilia - Camberwell, VIC(7 years ago)
G'day Cecilia,
The Darche Cold Mountain 900 Sleeping Bag -12° comes with a full-length zipper allowing you to open the bag up like a doona. However, just be mindful that as it comes with a hood, that may get in the way if you're trying to use it as a doona.

Fibre filling1 answer
When I lay in it it feels awesome but I'm not sure if the filling moves around inside the bag itself
Samson - Mayanup, WA(8 years ago)
G'day Samson,
The hollow fibre synthetic filling inside the Darche Cold Mountain Sleeping Bag shouldn't move. Basically, what you have is two separate sheets of synthetic fill that are stitched to the baffles of the outer liner and inner liner of the sleeping bag with an air gap through the middle. This is all part of creating the insulation required in allowing the bag to stay warm all the way down to -12C.
