The Coleman Chest Cooler 47L is designed to be a great short-term option for keeping your drinks and food cold. Unlike some of the other brands which opt for better cooling functionality over portability and style, these sorts of coolers are designed to be easy to use for picnics or days at the beach as opposed to lengthy camping trips.

I'm so sorry about the wait, this seems to be a mystery that even (several people) at Coleman can't get to the bottom of - it must be a feature that was added by Coleman USA which may explain why no-one from the Australian office knows about it. 

Hi all, 

We've just had a chat with our Coleman rep while he was in store, and he's finally given us an answer! The attachment points are for the elastic cords (that are available in the US) to go across the top where you can store dry goods like a picnic blanket etc.
