Your site shows the volume as 1.9 litres. The dimensions shown of 20.5cm dia. x 9 cm high on my calc. comes to 2.972 litres. I assume that the dia. shown must include the 2 lifting flanges outside the oven. Is this correct ?. I can fit 3 camp ovens easily as the oven is 85 cm wide and the coals are at the rear thereof. I would like to try this method as it is difficult to stop burning some of the crust when baked on the firebrick base.
G'day Marshall,
Those are the external dimensions but don't include the tabs. You should have good success using them for bread, afterall there is some pretty epic dampers being made out there!
The internal dimensions are 19.4cm diameter x 7cm tall.
Hope that helps!
Please provide the country of original manufacture.
G'day Mark,
The Cast Iron Camp Ovens are made from cast iron, and are manufactured in China.
Cast iron camp oven
G'day Byron,
You won't have too many issues making some small loaves of bread in the Campfire Cast Iron Camp Oven 2 Quart but I would say that there'd only be enough bread for 2-4 people at any given time.
My usual recipe would overflow this capacity oven, it it would fit in our pack better.
Hi Anna,
I'm sorry we don't have a specific 2-quart recipe either but perhaps your recipe can be modified with a few calculations as I've read that a basic Damper recipe consists of 3 parts water (by volume) to 10 parts self raising flour with a sprinkle or pinch of salt. I've also found this recipe which might be nice: Beer & Bacon Damper
Hope that helps!
G’day Jocelyn, I’ve just tried this for myself in store and the 2 Quart Pioneer Oven does fit inside the 4.5 Qt Pioneer Oven, but the lid doesn’t close properly because of the handles so you might want to keep that in mind. Cast iron won’t scratch but it can crack, so when you're transporting it make sure you pad it with cardboard or wrap it with a tea towel so it doesn’t rattle.
