Camp oven cooking is an Australian tradition. Also traditional is to use one over an open campfire. This is great during winter or outside of the fire ban, but what are you to do in the middle of summer? Use a Camp Oven Mate.
The Camp Oven Mate is a cleverly designed steel windshield and a lid that promotes heat transfer around your camp oven to ensure even baking - not boiling. The design prevents flames from escaping or blowing out, and it works with a standard gas ring burner.
If you're going camping in a national park this summer and fire bans prevent you from having an open fire, take a Camp Oven Mate with you so you can keep up with the Australian tradition.

Would it fit on a Companion wok burner?1 answer
Hi, i think your oven would great as most places we like to camp at no longer allow fires. We have a Companion Single Burner Wok Cooker and I’m wondering if your oven would fit over it.
Lee Ann - Blackburn Vic(4 years ago)
G'day Lee Ann,
Unfortunately, the camp oven mate isn't large enough to fit the Single Wok Burner, they're a tad too small to fit. They've been designed for use with Cast Iron Ring burners, for example, the Triple Ring Burner

Carry Bag1 answer
Does it come with a carry bag or is there something aftermarket that could be used?
Philip - Perth(4 years ago)
G'day Philip,
The Camp Oven Mate doesn't come with a carry bag, and unfortunately, we don't currently have any bags that will be quite the right size. They fold flat in a large square box that is quite good for storage, or you could use a canvas duffle bag or furniture bag, you'll just end with lots of spare space.

Using with heat beads 1 answer
Would this be suitable for use with heat beads to help Lee heat in?
Sarah - Brightwaters(5 years ago)
I can't see any reason why you couldn't, Sarah. Keep in mind that this is sheet metal rather than cast iron or spun steel so it won't be able to handle extremely high heat, so I wouldn't recommend loading it with too many heatbeads, and it won't retain heat like thicker metal would.
I assume you are thinking you could place heatbeads around the side of the pot, which should be fine, but I've not had any feedback on people doing this, sorry.

Camp oven mate1 answer
Hi. Can this be safely used on a plastic table?
Janet - Mapleton(5 years ago)
G'day Janet,
We don't recommend this or any stoves or gas rings for use on a plastic table as they do generate and retain a fair amount of heat, which then runs the risk of melting your table. A metal table would be a safer option in this instance.

Can a new camp oven be seasoned inside a camp oven mate?1 answer
As above
Paul - Helensburgh(5 years ago)
G'day Paul,
We can't see any reason why this wouldn't work to assist in seasoning your camp oven. If you want some tips for seasoning have look at our blog Guide to Seasoning Your Camp Oven.

Evan - Leschenault (6 years ago)
G'day Evan,
I've just double checked for you and unfortunately, the Hillbilly Bush King is a bit too big to fit in the Camp Oven Mate.

Dimensions1 answer
I have a Bromic LPG single burner Stove model DC100 with dimensions 300mm W x 100mm H. I am seeking to know if it will fit under the Camp Oven Mate. Would you mind confirming the width and height of the cutout section at the bottom of the Camp Oven Mate that the gas stove slides in under please.
Thanks Very Much
Nathan - Perth(6 years ago)
G'day Nathan,
Armed with my trusty tape measure, I've just measured the cutout on the Southern Metal Spinners Camp Oven Mate for you. Unfortunately, for you, the hole is about 260 x 77 mm.

I have a gas stove with two burners, will the oven mate sit over it without tipping over??1 answer
The stove used in the videos is a single, mine has two burners on a metal stand about four inches high, will the oven mate fit over it, or would I have to balance it precariously on top?
Lynne - Mortlake(7 years ago)
G'day Lynne,
Without knowing exactly the size of your stove, it's a little hard to tell but I would suggest that you might be able to place one burner underneath the Southern Metal Spinners Camp Oven Mate and have the other protruding through the gap, which would allow it to stand without being at risk of falling over.

Bedourie camp oven suitability 1 answer
Can you please let me know if both 10" and 12" Bedourie ovens will fit?
Romy - Lara(8 years ago)
G’day Romy,
I’ve just checked this with the display models, and the Camp Oven Mate will fit with both the 10†and 12†Southern Metal Spinners Bedourie Ovens.Â

What size gas burner is the best to use with this?1 answer
What is the best size gas burner is to use with this? i.e. single/double/triple/quad cast iron burner?
Karl - Fadden/Canberra(9 years ago)
G'day Karl - Great question. All of 'em will work - a single might take a bit longer to heat things up, and a quad might be a bit of an overkill. If you have one already, it'll be fine to use. However, a double is probably optimal. Hope that helps. Cheers, Paul
