Whether you’re after hot water to make a beverage, or you want to do some simple cooking – the Stainless Steel Billy from Zebra is the straighforward choice.
Made from durable and hygienic stainless steel, this billy comes a dish that sits inside which can be removed to use as a plate or for steam cooking. When cooking or in transit you can secure the lid easily with the locking system, and the handle has a notch in it so that you can suspend it from a pot hanger.
Boil water or steam some food with some help from the classic Stainless Steel Billy from Zebra.
Is the Billy 100% stainless steel? No aluminium or lead?
G'day Dana,
Steel and therefore stainless steel is actually an Alloy, and not a pure metal, so 100% stainless steel comes in a variety of grades with different alloy ratios. The Zebra Billy is 304 Stainless Steel. This does not contain lead or aluminium.
To help pour water out of the billy, does the lid slide around the bottom of the billy to use it as a “handle”? (To tip it up from the bottom)
G'day Jacques,
The lid comes completely off so you can hold on to it and use it to help tip it up from the bottom if you want to.
I have a bushbuddy stove 9.6cm high I would like to store in pot under steamer. Will it fit?
G'day Lachlan,
I've just measured the 1.4L Pot for you and unfortunately, I don't think you'll fit your stove in there. The maximum internal height is 8cm with the steamer basket in or 12cm with the steamer basket out.
is it possible to fit either of the smaller size zebra billies into the 3L zebra billy? If not is there any stainless steel billies that will fit inside this 3L billy for storage?
G'day Lisa,
I've just tried this out for you and I can confirm the 1.4Lt Billy will fit inside the 3L if you remove the small internal steaming plate from the 3L.
These models seem to have the plastic locking clips. The new models have metal clips. Do you supply those? Online reviews show Firebox supplies extra metal clips with the models having plastic clips.
G'day Mohit,
I've checked all of our display stock and they only have the plastic clips sorry. Firebox Stove is an American website so they are more than likely buying stock through a different supplier than us.
I've often found that when trying to pour water out of billys or pots with handles that swivel, that the billy will swing and the water will go everywhere. Do I need to use a separate rag or billy can grip pliers in order to pour out the water?
G'day Sam,
The Zebra Stainless Steel Billy doesn't have a handle to help pour as you indicate. I have a similar billy and tend to either use a leather glove or a stick to help pour out the water. You could use a gripper if you wanted to as well though, anything will be fine, as long as it works for you.
Campfire Billy ss ...Does the 1L fit into the 2L and then them into the3
G'day Kerrie,
Unfortunately, the different sizes of the Campfire Billy SS don't fit inside each other because of the handles on them. They've also recently been updated to include clips and a little bowl inside the billy, so that makes it impossible to store them inside each other too.
We are looking to find a billy which we can be used to boil water or reheat food. I read another review Q&A and it said it had a plastic handle? Can you please confirm? Many thanks
There are some little plastic clips that feature on the latest versions (not in the picture on our site), which might be what you are reading about. The handle itself is stainless steel. The clips are located where the handle is joined to the main billy and keep the lid in place when the handle is upright.
I have a couple of these that I use on the fire and stove, but I don't have the little plastic clips. I would recommend popping these clips off, I've never had a problem with the lid not staying on, and it would limit the flexibility of where you can use these billy's.
They are really good btw, I have used mine for years, and they still look great. I don't think I'll ever need to replace them.
Hi, what are the dimensions of the 3l billy? Also, are all parts metal? I was looking at Zebra billies and the larger versions have plastic handle locks, which kinda defeats the purpose. Cheers!
G'day Michael,
The Campfire 3L Stainless Steel Billy is 28 x 16.5 x 18.5 cm when the handle us up & is 19 x 17 x 18.5 cm when the handle is down. It's also 100% stainless steel.
What are the dimensions of the 1.25L and 2.0L billies?
G'day Yvette,
The dimensions of the 1.25L Campfire Billy SS are 21L x 14W x 13H cm, and the 2L is 24.5L x 15W x 16H cm.
