G'day Kara,
There's alot of factors that affect this situation, so no straight answer. It depends on how well you anchor the awning, and how strong the wind is. As with most situations, it will just come down to common sense. If you're expecting a bit of wind, angle the umbrella appropriately and bury it deep. If the wind looks like it's starting to affect the umbrella, probably a good idea to collapse it down until it passes.
