When it comes to innovation in the outdoor lighting industry, Biolite are lightyears ahead. The BaseLantern XL is the first flatpack lantern that combines lighting with Bluetooth technology which provides you with your own little smart grid for charging devices.
To unlock this lantern’s full potential, hook it up to the low energy Bluetooth app that will allow you to use unlock the alarm function for early mornings, proximity activation to prevent any stumbles in the dark, and an/off dimming so you can switch your light up from the comfort of your sleeping bag or bed. The powerbank function will allow you to charge your phone, tablet and other gear thanks to the 12000 mAh battery in the BaseLantern XL. The edge to edge lighting design provides you with 500 lumens of light, but without the bulk, so it’s easy to slip into the top of your bag.
The sturdy stainless steel folding legs let you hang this light from a tree, stand it off a table, or angle the direction of light when you need it. With several different lighting modes, you can switch it red to preserve your night vision, change the light to blue to rest your eyes, or switch it to the multi-coloured light mode if you want to add some party vibes to your campsite or home.

Phone connection1 answer
Another reviewer says phone needs to have a signal - is that true? Is Bluetooth not enough? Can you use this in places with no mobile coverage?
Matthew - EAST LAUNCESTON(4 years ago)
G'day Matthew,
I've just checked with our resident expert Biolite Baselantern owner Jake, and he's indicated your phone doesn't need to have mobile coverage, just Bluetooth connection to the lantern.

App control1 answer
what happens to the control when camping out of mobile range?
Ron - Brisbane(5 years ago)
G'day Ron,
You can use the power button on the BaseLantern XL to turn the unit on or off, to dim and press through the cycles.

How many Lumens is the low output ?1 answer
what is the low lumens output for the run time of 78 hours?
Ron - Mount Nebo(5 years ago)
G'day Ron,
We've double-checked the catalogue and product itself and the low lumen output is not actually advertised anywhere. The BaseLantern XL has fully adjustable brightness and colour temperature via the app, and based on trying it out we'd say it's not too dissimilar to a low light lamp.

Light mount options1 answer
Does this have any sort of slotted holes on the base to hand on the outside of a caravan rather than the legs? Also which way does the movement sensor activate from?
Phil - Panorama(6 years ago)
G'day Phil,
I've just double checked the BaseLantern Xl for you and there are no mount on the base of the lantern to attach it to the outside of a caravan. The stainless steel legs can be rotated and the unit is able to be hung upside down if there is somewhere you can hang it from. The proximity activation sensor is based on your connected Bluetooth device's proximity to the unit rather than being a motion sensor. This means you can have the light activate when you're coming back to camp, Bluetooth range tends to be around 20m. Alternately you can switch the light on/off using an app on your connected device, so you can turn the light on from bed in the caravan too!

LEDS remain dimmed when off?1 answer
Hi guys, I've just got this and unsure if this is meant to occur but when the unit is off there are what appear to be 6 LEDs that remain 'on' but very dim on one side of the lantern where the battery indicator is. Is this meant to occur, are the LEDs meant to stay dimly lit or is this a fault? Thanks for your help.
Matt - Melbourne(7 years ago)
G'day Matt,
I've just had a chat with our assistant store manager, Jake, who has a BioLite BaseLantern himself. He said that his stays dimly illuminated for about a minute after he switches it off but that it doesn't stay on permanently. If yours is staying on permanently, then it might well be faulty. Feel free to give us a buzz on 1300 914 007 and we can help you out.

recharge1 answer
can this set up be recharged from another 12volt source? it seems great but the high power run time is not enough for a few days.
thanks
alex - northcote (7 years ago)
G'day Alex,
It can. The BioLite BaseLantern XL is charged via a Micro USB cable.

How many string lights does it power1 answer
Can't seem to find a basic answer to how many sets of string lights the base unit powers amongst all the bluetooth twaddle. Is it one set of two string lights (total, 2 lights) or 2 sets of 2 lights (total, 4 lgihts) and thus has two separate ports for each set of lights. Ta.
Sam - Moonee Beach(7 years ago)
G'day Sam,
Great question. From my investigation, the Biolite BaseLantern XL can power 4 SiteLights. This would equate to a set of 2x lights running from the 2 available ports on the BaseLantern.
