The Sea to Summit Basecamp BC3 Sleeping Bag is a bit of a trickster. I'm not sure that we've seen a more charmingly versatile cool weather bag!
Sure, it's filled with 750+ loft 90/10 premium grey duck down, making it a beautiful lofty bag that boasts a great weight vs warmth ratio. But it's the way that it handles anything that you throw at it that makes it so impressive. Is it really cold? No worries. Zip yourself right up, pull the hood over your head, and pull the drawcords tight. Toasty in no time. It's warming up. Great. Unzip either side or both at once. Let the air flow. Bit warmer? Zip both sides right down just leaving a comfy foot box to keep your most extreme extremities snug. Are things heating up? Zip the top from the base and use it as a quilt. Now it's really hot? Cool. Strap the base to your sleeping mat and go 'topless'!
I did say the Basecamp was versatile, didn't I? And to top it off it has a neat little elastic strap to strap your pillow to the outside of the hood. No more waking up with a crookneck. Just super comfy sleep, even when things get chilly.

Why does it smell ? Is there a way to remove it ?1 answer
Hi - I just received my order of two of these sleeping bags and while I'm really impressed with the quality (yet to try it) it has a distinct smell inside - wet dog kind of smell. If I aired it out for a day or two will that get rid of it ? Any other suggestions ? I don't want to have to wash it when it's brand new.
David - Wulagi(6 years ago)
G'day David,
Because the Sea to Summit Basecamp BCIII Sleeping Bag uses duck down for its insulation, it can have a slight animal smell at first. I'd recommend you get the sleeping bags out and air them for a day or two, you'll most likely find that this gets rid of the smell as it's been contained for a while in the packaging. I wouldn't recommend washing it as water can lessen the insulation properties of the down, potentially some talcum powder or other odour eating powder could help as well.

Do I need sleeping mat?1 answer
Hi,
Not 100% sure, but from what I can see, it's combined sleeping mat and bag. Or do I need to purchase a separate sleeping matt? thank you.
Kevin - Meadowbank, NSW(6 years ago)
G'day Kevin,
The sleeping mat shown in the images we've got for the Sea to Summit Basecamp BCIII Sleeping Bag is just to show how the straps function on this bag, the mattress itself is sold separately.

Sleeping mat to fit1 answer
I own a sea to summit comfort plus in the large size. Will this mat fit onto the straps and will the bag sit properly and securely on this pad? Other reviews have indicated that it will not.
Neil - Wollongong(7 years ago)
G'day Neil,
We weren't too sure what the answer was to your question, so I gave Sea to Summit a call. They told me that they haven't heard any feedback regarding the Basecamp BCIII bag not fitting securely on a comfort plus mat.
I'm assuming you're interested in the Long size BCIII bag as you have the Large sized Comfort Plus Mat. Sea to Summit have confirmed that this combination should be a compatible fit with the straps, and they should be fairly secure unless there was a lot of movement.
I hope this was helpful Neil!

I'm 196cm tall1 answer
I'd like to find a down sleeping bag that will fit me that is approx -10c. Will this one fit? Any suggestions on one that will? the specs never show the difference in the sizes. Thanks, Phil
Phil - Annandale(7 years ago)
G'day Phil,
The Long Sea to Summit Basecamp BCIII Sleeping Bag is 215cm long, I'd say that whilst your feet will probably rest right down the very end, you should be able to fit inside this bag snuggly and still put the hood over your head.

does this bag have dwr treatment ?1 answer
Just wondering if the outer of the basecamp has dwr , also the down ?
Paul - lockleys(7 years ago)
G'day Paul,
I've just checked this with Sea to Summit and can confirm that the Sea to Summit Basecamp BCIII Sleeping Bag has been DWR treated on the outer as well as on the down.
