Lightweight, compact and great value – the Gasmate Backpacker Stove is perfect for the lone hiker on the trail.
This stove is built tough as it has a stainless-steel burner, with foldaway pan supports. It provides you with 9,900 BTU which takes approximately 4.30 minutes to boil water, so it’s perfect for making a hot cuppa or rehydrating a meal while you’re out in the elements. This stove weighs only 200g, has heat control know so that you can precisely adjust the flame and packs away into a storage pouch to keep it safe when you’re not using it.
If you’re in need of a simple and affordable unit for cooking meals on lightweight expeditions, the Backpacker Stove from Gasmate should be on your radar.
Will this burner be able to use any branded screw on butane canisters like the one shown above? (the short wide $15ea kind) Or is it only compatible with the gasmate branded ones.
G'day Trent,
The Gasmate Backpacker stove is compatible with any self-sealing screw thread hike style gas canister. They're generally available in 230g (pictured) or 450g and should be around $10-$15 depending on the brand and the store.
In my country town I am having trouble purchasing this style of tank I can only get big gas canisters or the cans to refill.
G'day Kathy,
We sell the
Is that correct? My old one looks the same but does not have ignition?
G'day Andrew,
Hi Alexandra, The burner does exactly what I wanted, and the delivery was super fast and I received it before I went camping. There was no instructions re the piezo ignition on my burner, so I suppose I got an old one. Not a big problem. i have a lighter. Cheers Richard
G'day Andrew,
We've just done some double checking and unfortunately, Gasmate doesn't actually include the Piezo ignition on this model. Sorry for the confusion above based on the November 2018 answer, we might have been looking at the model that made that had a windshield and Piezo Ignition. Sorry for the confusion, I hope the lighter will continue to do the trick.
The 2nd image of this product with the guy and his kid clearly shows an adapter to use the "bug spray" type canisters INSTEAD of the regular B188 / EN417 screw type lindal valve canister shown from the first image. Additionally, does the listed weight include that adapater?
G'day Jared,
Thanks for pointing that out to us, mate. Embarrassingly enough, that photo isn't even of the Gasmate Backpacker Stove but a different stove altogether. We've taken that photo off now. Sorry for any confusion!
Or do I have to buy a gasmate cartridge?
G'day Sigrid,
The Gasmate Backpacker Stove uses a different type of connection, pressure and gas to your 9kg bottle.
For this stove, you'll need to buy the canisters.
For the gas mate backpacker stove
G'day Lyn,
Most reputable camping stores along with well-stocked petrol stations/roadhouses should carry the screw threaded gas canisters. This style of canister is the most common as is the required canister for the Gasmate Backpacker Stove along with many other hiking stoves on the market and the canisters can often be purchased in a range of sizes.
Can you suggest a cooker that would be suitable for use with a wok?
G'day Ian,
Unfortunatley I think you'll find many portable stoves are to small to successfully use a wok without having to pay really close attention to keep it upright.
Just purchased campfire Pioneer Wok
G'day Ian,
I wouldn't recommend it as the Gasmate Backpacker Stove is very unlikely to provide the required stabilisation without very precise attention to keep it balanced as you cook.
Hi I am just looking at other options to use under my trangia for faster boil and was wondering with this on top of the small gas mate cartridge would it fit to work with the small trangia? Thank you Laura.
Hi Laura, good question! I've never been asked this before, so I've given it a go. The Gasmate stove will work, but the smallest Gasmate Cartridge (230gm) is too big. It does however work using the stove with a 100gm Cartridge. It's just fits, with the top of the stove sitting just below the top of the windshield.Â
