Hi just wondering if these packs are gender specific? I am female and about 164cm (5ft4) and am wondering if it would be suitable.

These packs aren't gender-specific, so they can be used by anyone. As they are a very lightweight pack, the back length is fixed, but the shoulder straps and hip belt can be adjusted. I'm around the same height, and have found they are an ok fit, however, depending on your torso/limb ratio, you might find it a tad long. If you're planning on doing overnight hikes, we'd recommend a pack with an adjustable back length.

There isn't a removable back insert in the B-Lite 55, the pack has a mesh-backed harness with an aluminium frame that helps to create some curvature so that there is some airflow between the pack and the mesh. Internally there is a small pocket that you put a water bladder, but there are no removable parts.

I've just double checked and the B-Lite 55L Backpack doesn't have a specific minimum or maximum weight limit however generally, if you fully pack a 55 pack you'll end up with 10-15kg in the pack. These packs are generally designed for longer day walks, or single overnight walks.

I've been and had a look at a Black Wolf B-Lite 55 just to confirm my thoughts, and as I suspected it has a frame that's going to prevent you from compressing the height of the bag at all sorry. You might be able to sneak it through on some airlines, but they're all getting stricter on these things so I'm not sure I'd risk it.

The Black Wolf B-Lite 55L Backpack would be too large for carry on with most airlines. The safest bet for a carry on bag would be to limit yourself to nothing bigger than a 40L bag.

I've measured this up for you, from the top of the shoulder strap, with it rounded as it would over a shoulder, to the centre of the hip belt, the measurement is 45-47 cm. I too am 6 foot, or just a little over, and this fits comfortably on my back with the hip belt situated in the current location to carry load on my waist.

The shoulder straps on the Black Wolf B-Lite 55L can be adjusted but you can't adjust the length of the torso of the pack. If you're after something similar with an adjustable length harness have a look at the Deuter ACT Lite 50 10 or ACT Lite SL 45 10, depending on your height and build.

The best option we have available is the Black Wolf Overall available here which is designed specifically for what you're after. It's a bit bigger than the 55L of the Black Wolf B-Lite Backpack but would ensure that your bag straps are all contained and offer minimal protection against the bag being damaged in transit.

I'm not sure when the change occurred Stuart, but the raincovers in the B-Lite packs are all a bright orange now, and the Tempo is the same. All the Black Wolf rain-covers were the silver you refer to, I suspect the change occurred a few months ago when new colourways were introduced to the Black Wolf Range.
