Yes the B-Lite 35L Backpack should just be able to fit overnight gear for your 12-year-old, however this will depend on how compact the sleeping gear is. They're not overly deep from front to back due to the air frame design, so it would be worth checking the size of the sleeping gear against the in-use dimensions to see if you think everything will fit.

You should be ok with the B-Lite 35L pack, the should strap length is adjustable, so you can set that up for your shoulder height once you've fit the hip belt.

Good question, but the answer really depends on what other gear you own. My initial response would be that it really is too small, but it could work if you have a really fancy, tiny sleeping bag and tent etc. But most people will find the 55L is a much more adequate size. I wasn't entirely sure on this one, so I went and had a quick look at our display model Black Wolf B-Lite 35L Backpack. The sternum strap is adjustable right up and down the shoulder straps, so you'll be able to make it work for you, no worries at all.

You'd be pretty safe going with any bladder up to 3L inside your Black Wolf B-Lite 35L Backpack. I'd probably recommend looking at one of the Black Wolf Tank Bladder options. 

It's a bit hard to work out volume from external dimensions David. The volume of a pack is actually calculated with foam balls that are then tipped out into a calibrated cylinder to indicate volume. The larger dimensions on the B-Lite is most likely due to the harness being more three dimensional with an airspace between the users back and the pack. The harness on the Crux only has padding between the user and cargo, therefore the external dimensions do not include any 'unused' air space.
