The 23Zero Alaska Black 1100 Sleeping Bag is a roomy bag made tough with a water-resistant polycotton shell.
Don't let its tough exterior fool you though, inside is a 100% cotton flannel liner and dual layers of insulation for a cosy sleep in any environment. Zippers feature down each side and along the foot section so you can open the bag all the way or just use the zips to manage warmth retention and ventilation.
The features don't stop there though, inside is a storage pocket so you can keep valuables safe and the bag comes complete with a flannel-lined pillow. The Alaska Black 1100 is perfect for restless sleepers with loads of internal space and is ideal for use in large swags or a rooftop tent.
My sleeping bag will be inside a Darche 1100 air swag ( to be purchased along with stretcher from you guys ), all under a tarp enclosure; which would be the most practical ( Darche cold mountain, rivergum, or Alaska black )? Camping on northern rivers in autumn/winter, temps at night can get down to 0 degrees.

G'day Rod,
The Cold Mountain or Alaska Black are the warm two of the bags listed, so they may be the way to go, especially if you're not using an upgraded self inflating sleeping mat. If you are a warm sleeper and you prefer having the option of a removable liner, the Oztent Rivergum may be the way to go. You can always chuck an extra blanket in if needed.

Inner lining1 answer
Hi there, Is the inner cotton flannel lining removable for washing ?
Rod - Wooli, NSW (1 year ago)
G'day Rod,
There isn't a separate liner with this sleeping back, it just has flannel inner material. If you are specifically needing a bag with a removable liner, check out the Oztent Rivergum XL as an alternative. Hope that helps!

Hood & size1 answer
Hi, does the hood have a draw cord or other mechanism to wrap the hood closer to the head please? Bag's 235L x 110W dimensions are bigger than my 23Zero Bandit 1100 swag's sleeping area of 205L x 100W cm. I'm 6'/183cm. Should be ok?
Bruce - Gosnells, WA(1 year ago)
G'day Bruce,
Yep, the Alaska bags do have the option to cinch the hood. The dimensions of the bag are measured when flat, so once you put a 3D body inside, it will be a bit narrower from the space taken up. You shouldn't have any issues using this in an 1100 swag, and your height wont be much of an issue at all.

Compared to Cold Mountain?1 answer
Being a fair bit more expensive, just wondering how it compares to the Darche Cold Mountain Canvas?
Marc - Sydney, NSW(1 year ago)
G'day Marc,
In terms of material quality they're much of a muchness but the Alaska is alot warmer, hence the heavier overall size with additional insulation, and the higher price point. Hope that helps!

Can they be zipped together 1 answer
Hello I’m wondering can they be zipped together to make one huge 2200 bag ?
Rick - Bairnsdale, VIC(2 years ago)
G'day Rick,
Yes, absolutely. This bag has dual zippers - ones down either side, so they're easily joined.

23 Zero 1100 sleeping bag 1 answer
How do you determine the best size option, 900 or 1100?
Carl - Greendale, VIC(3 years ago)
G'day Carl,
Those numbers refer to the width of the sleeping bag, 90cm wide, or 110cm wide. Which one you choose literally just comes down to personal preference, and whether on not you want a wider or narrower fit. If you are wanting to use your bag with a swag, I'd chose the width that best corresponds to the width of that.

Suitable for swags? 1 answer
Hi guys, can this be put inside a swag or would it make the swag huge and bulky?
Katie - Capella(4 years ago)
G'day Katie,
The Alaska 1100 is a popular model to use inside the 1100 wide swag range. If you do roll the sleeping bag up inside the swag you will end up with a slightly bulkier roll, but generally, if you're careful it will still be small enough to secure with the swags straps.

Zippers1 answer
Do the zippers tend to unzip through the night as with some other bags?
Ken - Upper Plenty(4 years ago)
G'day Ken,
I haven't heard this is an issue with this bag and from reading some of the reviews it seems to do a great job of keeping our customers warm!

Yes you can wash the Alaska sleeping bags in an oversize commercial front loader washing machine on a cold wash with mild detergent.

Spiral zipper vs anti-snag zipper used on other bags1 answer
differences between zipper types and durability?
John - Sydney(4 years ago)
G'day John,
23Zero use SBS zippers which are similar to YKK zippers, albeit without the reputation. I've had a bit of a play with the zippers on this bag and they flow fairly freely and feel like they should be quite durable.

Comparison to Darche Cold Mountain Canvas1 answer
Any insight on a comparison between the Darche and 23Zero offerings, they seem similar!!
John - Werribee(5 years ago)
Very similar, I've not delved deeply into the differences and we are yet to receive feedback on them, but the quality of build is much the same.
At a high-level 23Zero claim to use a water-resistant shell and there are some differences in the weights of the fill, but overall I would say they are pretty much on par with each other and it would be hard to recommend one over the other.
