Compact, hardy and built especially for high-performance activities, the Actik headlamp from Petzl is the ideal illuminator for mountaineering, running, hiking, and backpacking.
With 450 lumens of brightness, two beam patterns, and multiple lighting modes, the Actik is the perfect pal to accompany you on all your demanding outdoor activities. There’s nothing worse than turning on your light, only to have it ruin your night vision. The red lighting option on the Actik will allow you to get up in the middle of the night for a toilet break or midnight snack without blinding your fellow trekkers while keeping your vision intact.
Night visibility is also made easier as the headband is reflective and in emergencies, and the Actik comes with the CORE rechargeable battery or is also compatible with three AAA/LR03 batteries. If you’ve got a passion for outdoor sports, then the Actik from Petzl will provide you with all the lighting options for all your active pursuits.
Hi, I’m looking for a decently strong red lens for spotlighting animals in trees. Can you tell me how many lumens the red light pushes out?
G'day Jessica,
The red light function in the Actik Core is just for close area lighting only.
It's 2 lumens for a maximum of 5 metres.
If you are wanting to use a strong red light beam you would probably have to look at tactical or hunting style torches. Check out the MH25 torch with the red filter...or the Hard Korr Hunting Spotlight.
Does it store your chosen mode so you switch on/off without cycling through every brightness setting under the sun? It’s particularly useful at night in red led mode.
G'day Joe,
The red and white lights are different functions, as opposed to functions on the same cycle.
You cycle through the white light functions, etc and there is a brightness memory, but to access the red light function you have to switch over by pressing and holding the power button.
You can do this regardless of the white mode you are in at the time.
The headlamp stays in the red light function unless you activate it back into the white cycles by using the power button again.
Hope that helps.
On an older Petzl headlamp I have it's possible to adjust the angle of the light against the base/strap. Is this still possible with this model? Thanks!
G'day Chris,
Yes, the head of the light tilts so that you can adjust the angle to direct it at your dinner/hands, or out straight, and anywhere in between.
Hi my BD torch has a lock function but I’m wanting to buy a Petzl this time. Does this model have a lock function so I can’t accidentally turn it on inside my pack and run the battery down?
G'day Sarah,
The Petzl Actick Core Headlamp does not have a lock function, and I dont believe any in the Petzl range do.
The petzl swift rl comes with a lock on the on/off button.
G'day Henry,
Thanks for that! The Swift RL is a newer model that wasn't out when we answered the last question. We'll post your hopeful response for other people looking :)
I’m looking at purchasing the headlight for a run on the BVRT in June and will be needing to use it for 8-9hours through the night
G'day Anne-Marie,
I've just had a trial of this but unfortunately, the headlamp won't run while the core battery is being charged. If you're wanting to run this for 9 hours on the standard mode you could run it on the core battery and then swap it out for some AAA batteries. If you plan to run it on full brightness you might need to swap through the batteries a few times.
If using Alkaline batteries in the Acktik Core, will the burn time be approximately the same as that of the Acktik Hybrid (which states 60 hours on high)? The specs on the Acktik Core only talk about burn time using the rechargeable battery but I’d like to get a comparison of the burn time using Alkaline batteries in both the Acktik Core and Acktik Hybrid.
G'day Lea,
Thanks for your enquiry. I've spoken with a colleague who is an expert in this area. He advised that according to the specifications provided by

G'day Peter,
The Petzl
Description indicates 300 but detail indicates max at 350. Thanks!
G'day John,
Thanks for pointing out this error to us. We have updated the Details & Specs on this page to show the latest model specifications.
The specs list is ambiguous... suggests the USB rechargable battery is INCLUDED, and it is COMPATIBLE with AAAs.
G'day Craig,
Sorry, there has been some confusion regarding this, the Petzl Actik core Headlamp does, in fact, come with the rechargeable battery included.
G'day Craig,
The batteries are included and available now with the Petzl Actik Core Headlamp.
If you'd like to purchase a spare or replacement battery, these are currently out of stock until mid-December.
