Is it's 83cm deep? That's long!
G'day Damian,
Yes, the Fridge is 83cm deep externally from front to back due to the compressor housing.
can you fit a 500ml can upright inside the unit?
G'day Cam,
I don't have any 500ml cans to try this out for you, but I can tell you that the internal height is 16cm, so if your 500ml can is smaller than this you should be ok.
hi can the unit be mounted on top of one another? will be built into a kitchen. can you quote/call me/email me
G'day Ben.
It's not something we'd really be willing to recommend. You could theoretically stack two on top of each other, but you'd have to make some custom mounts to do this. Our best recommendation would be to have a chat to the team at Engel and see if there are any other options in their range that might be more suitable.
Can I mount the unit hard up a centre wall in a canopy? Worried about adequate ventilation as I assume it sucks in air from the back
G'day Henry,
The Evakool Drawer Fridge can be mounted pretty close to flush up against your centre wall with no issues. We'd suggest giving yourself at least a few centimetre gap, as you'll need a few centimetres space for the mounting plate anyway. The rear of the unit is where you'll find the compressor housing, so as long as there is a little bit of space for it to vent it shouldn't cause any issues.
Hi there, does this fridge have any tie down points to prevent it from rattling about in a Wagon?
G'day Lloyd,
The Evakool Drawer Fridge comes with a mounting plate that you screw into the floor of your vehicle and then screw the fridge down onto the mounting plate.
Given that most fridge manufacturers seem to offer a cover as an important aid to maintaining fridge temps/efficiency, is one available for this draw? If not, how are the insulation properties better/good enough to not have one when other fridges/manufacturers seem to confirm the benefits by offering the option?
G'day Bernard,
There isn't a cover option available for the 40L Drawer Fridge due to their need to be mounted and wired into the vehicle. The insulation is a high-grade foam that provides plenty of good insulation in the external housing and draw to ensure they are as efficient as possible.
Hi, do you guys stock the newer version with the extended roller length so the full depth of the drawer slides out? Cheers
G'day Drew,
I've just double-checked our display model and the roller length on the drawer does appear to be longer than some of the review videos you'll find on youtube, and the video on the Evakool website. I'd say you can access all but approximately 10cm of the draw from above, with the farthest back section probably best for things that you won't need too often on a trip.
Continuous and Max
G'day Paul,
The max draw on Turbo on 2.0-2.5 A/h, this will get you down to that -16*c capacity.
At around 4/5*c, your normal fridge temp, your draw will sit around 1.0-1.5 A/h.
Hope that helps!
I would like to set this up in my motorhome which has solar and also the fridge in it runs of the battery while I am driving.
G'day Gloria,
The Evakool 40L Drawer Fridge Freezer will work with a 12v or 24v solar powered system, but your best bet is give us a call on 1300 914 007 to through the specifics of your set up and variables to consider!
Eg. Ute tub or back of a transit van
G'day Trev,
I've spoken with one of the fridge experts here who happens to have a van and he said yes it is possible to mount the 40L Drawer Fridge into a ribbed floor, but it may require a little bit of modification to make it work, as the brackets are designed for a flat surface. One consideration to make is to ensure there is adequate ventilation and protection from the elements (so ute tubs aren't usually a good option as the compressor is only partially housed.
Hi I'd like to know what the 'current' draw is for this to determine how long a, say, 100Ah battery would keep it going for Cheers
G'day Mark,
The Evakool 40L fridge has a power consumption of Eco 1.0-1.5 A/h, 5°C interior, 32°C ambient, Turbo 2.0-2.5 A/h -16°C interior, 32°C ambient - I hope this helps Mark.
How much space is required (additional to the external dimensions) when installing this unit? How much height does the mounting kit add?
G'day Kate,
I've just had a good look a the unit itself and the mounting plate for it. The External Dimensions are almost spot on including the plate. I measured was 84 x 59.2 x 33.2, so as long as you have a little bit of clearance in each direction it shouldn't be a problem.
For a personal project
G'day Andrew,
Theoretically, it would be possible to mount the Evakool Drawer Fridge under a ute tray. However, our fridge experts here are indicating it wouldn't be a good idea as they're designed for internal use and not designed to withstand dust, run and road grime that would build up around the compressor area. So in summary, we wouldn't suggest it.
It say it has 'low voltage protection' Does this mean it will cut out at a preset voltage. I.e. 12.3v
G'day Brad,
The Evakool DC40 Drawer Fridge does have low voltage protection after a quick call to Evakool I've found out it will cut out at 10.8V.
can you send a picture of the bracket used so that i can line it up against what I need?
G'day James,
Here at the snaps of the bracket of the Evakool 40L Drawer Fridge Freezer - I hope this helps.
Engel fridges favour certain types of compressors because of their reliability- can you tell me about the compressor in this fridge?
G'day James,
The Evakool 40L Drawer Fridge Freezer uses Evakool's CK25 Compressor. The compressor is virtually silent, has low voltage protection that will stop your car battery from running dry, can operate at angles of up to 30 degrees, has a self-diagnostic fault system, and turbo mode to allow you to cool the fridge rapidly if you need to. Altogether, it's a pretty good compressor and is backed by Evakool's 2-year warranty.
Is there a 240v adaptor for this fridge?
G'day Greg,
I've just had a chat with Evakool about this to get the best solution for you. They said that the Evakool 40L Drawer Fridge Freezer is designed to be a permanent fixture so they said that if it would be in the car more often than not, you'd be best off getting a 240V car battery charger to keep the battery charged and still hardwire it to your car. Alternatively, they've got 2 adaptors you can use if you're wanting to use it half the time on 12V and half on 240V. The light duty one is plastic and uses a cigarette lighter plug, the heavy duty can be used outside, is aluminium and uses an Anderson plug. If you wanted to grab one of these adaptors, give us a buzz on 1300 914 007 and our customer service team can help you out with ordering one in.
Thinking of purchasing to put in back of Tourareg with extra battery to travel around Aus.
G'day Martin,
The Evakool 40L Drawer Fridge Freezer doesn't have a battery cut out feature, no. If you do get a second battery put into your car though, you can get a cut out between the two batteries so that even if it drains your deep cycle battery, it won't drain your car battery.
I think the first answer may be wrong. Whether it cuts out when the ignition is on is dependent upon how it is wired up. The unit has low voltage cut out at 10.5 Amps. I would recommend the enquirer obtain advice from an auto electrician about dual battery systems.
G'day Alan,
Yes you're correct, it will depend on how you have the unit wired by the auto electrician
I have a unit for two months now and generally like the design. In answer to your question, the unit is preferably hard wired to the supply battery, either the start battery ( not recommended) or a secondary battery that is charged by solar or car alternator ( via a Dc to DC charger or at least a VSR/ignition switched relay. The fridge does have a control panel on/off switch (non remote capable) but the display shows "OFF" , so the fridge always draws some power. The only way to have no power draw at all is to have a switch that you can use to turn the power to the fridge off .
How much weight can this drawer take on top of it?
G'day Gabi,
I've contacted EvaKool and while they don't have an official weight capacity, they advised that they ship them in stacks of 4, so you could get at least 120kg on top with no worries.
Is the compressor built inside the cabinet or is it separate, meaning that the compressor needs to be fitted elsewhere. Also what wiring comes with the fridge, it is ready to plug in to my 12 v point? Thanks Mark
G'day Mark,
The compressor is located at the rear of the Evakool 40L Drawer Fridge Freezer unit. Open wiring is provided so you have a range of choices as to whether you get a 12v point plug fitted or whether you wire directly to your battery.
G'day Josephine,
The compressor on the Evakool 40L Drawer Fridge Freezer can't be moved. As for the decibels, we're not sure but we will chase this up with Evakool for you and get an answer ASAP.
G'day Josephine,
I've spoken with Evakool today. The 40L Drawer Fridge Freezer needs to be manually defrosted. They didn't have any decibel reading devices on site and so we can't get an exact measurement on that one I'm sorry. They are certainly one of the quietest fridges on the market though.
The wiring is about 200mm long and unterminated ( bare wires, one red, one black) - no plugs supplied at all. The compressor is quiet, the cooling fan makes the most noise. Noise wise, probably the same as the fridge at home. Defrost is a 'turn it off and open the drawer job. There is a drain pipe fitted that you can connect a piece of longer hose to and let it drain the water out on to the ground , but make sure you have the car on an angle to have the rear of the unit lower than the front as other wise the water just runs out the front of the drawer cavity.
